How does laser cleaning actually work?
A high-intensity, precisely-tuned fiber laser pulse is directed at the surface. Contaminants like rust, paint, grease and carbon absorb the laser energy at a much higher rate than the base metal underneath, causing them to vaporize or fracture free, a process called ablation. What's left is bare, uniform substrate that's ready for coating, welding or reassembly.
What surfaces and materials is it safe for?
Steel, stainless, aluminum, cast iron, brass, copper, most alloys, injection mold tooling, natural stone, brick and many composites. We tune power, pulse frequency and dwell time to the specific material to ensure zero substrate damage. If we're unsure, we run a test coupon on a scrap sample before touching your part.
How does it compare to sandblasting or soda blasting?
Laser cleaning is non-contact and non-abrasive. That means no media consumption, no media disposal, no dimensional change to your parts, and no cleanup of blast material trapped in threaded holes, cavities or coolant lines. It's typically faster per part on production runs, and it doesn't require a blast cabinet or containment booth.
How does it compare to chemical stripping?
Chemical stripping uses caustic or solvent-based products that require containment, PPE, ventilation, and hazardous disposal. Laser cleaning uses no chemicals, just electricity and light. There's no wastewater, no drum of contaminated stripper to store, and no fumes beyond what our on-tool HEPA extraction captures at source.
Do you offer mobile service, or do parts have to come to your shop?
We are mobile only for your convenience. Our fiber laser unit, with fume extraction, comes directly to your shop, yard or jobsite across Southcentral Alaska. Extended mobile service is available statewide by quote.
How long does a typical job take?
Turnaround depends on the size of the job, the contaminant, and the substrate. Submit an estimate request with photos and details, and we'll reply with a firm turnaround time and price before we start.
What does it cost?
Pricing is job-specific and driven by three factors: surface area, contaminant type and depth, and whether it's shop or mobile. Fleet and production work is estimated per part, per hour, or as a fixed contract. Every estimate is free and includes an estimated turnaround time so you can compare it against your current process.
Is it safe for my operators and my shop?
Yes, when operated by trained technicians. Our operators are experienced across a wide range of materials and contaminants, and every job includes exclusion zones, laser-safe eyewear for anyone in the area, appropriate signage, and HEPA-filtered fume extraction.

Can laser cleaning remove lead-based paint or hazardous coatings?
Yes. Laser ablation is one of the safer methods for removing lead-based paint and similar hazardous coatings because there's no blast media to become contaminated and dispose of, and our fume extraction captures particulate at source. We follow all EPA and OSHA requirements for hazardous-coating removal and provide documentation for the job.
Do I need to prep my parts before you arrive?
In most cases, no. Loose debris, gross oil pooling, and any packaging should be removed, but the laser itself will handle surface grease, oxide, coatings and contamination directly. If a job requires disassembly or masking, we'll flag it in the quote so you know what to expect.
